Lifetime Learners has been part of the CT State Community College Norwalk (formerly NCC) community since 1993.
None of the Lifetime Learners courses and programs would be possible without the generous support of CT State Community College. The college provides us with classrooms and meeting rooms, office space and the use of all its Technology resources and all facilities.
Our relationship with CT State – The administrative relationship between LLI and CT State is through the Department of Continuing Education & Workforce Development (formerly Extended Studies and Workforce Education).
What we contribute – Our members volunteer services to CT State, such as mentoring, rush mailings, registration-day help, and participation in Foundation fundraising.
The LLI offices at CT State LLI’s administrative and membership offices are located within the Continuing Education offices in room W102, West Campus building. LLI visitors should not enter the office area except during office hours.
Senior Registration Day – Many LLI members enroll in CT State courses. The State of Connecticut offers tuition waivers to all Connecticut citizens at least 62 years old at any state college, on a space-available basis. Each spring and fall, after regular student registrations end, there is a Senior Registration Day (one morning) when senior citizens can register for any empty seats. Please see the CT State Norwalk Academic calendar for the date of these two Senior Registration Days.
LLI and the CT State Foundation – In its efforts to provide comprehensive, innovative and affordable learning opportunities for diverse populations throughout southwestern Connecticut, the college is supported by the CT State Foundation. It seeks funds from contributions and grants to be used for operating expenses, special projects, building improvements and endowments. Individuals and organizations contribute during the Annual Appeal, or Planned Giving, or in ways of their own.
LLI contributes to the Foundation in two ways: From the LLI Treasury. LLI receives money from membership dues and course fees to pay its own expenses and have a year-end (May) surplus, which used for contributions to the Foundation. The LLI Board earmarks most of the money for special purposes, school departments, and scholarships for CT State students. Every spring the Institute offers tuition scholarships to CT State students working toward careers in Human Services, Nursing or Recreation. The students selected by the Scholarship Committee, receive their awards at the LLI Annual Meeting. From member contributions. LLI members are asked several times a year to contribute to the Foundation via LLI. The money can be unrestricted or earmarked for the LLI Scholarship Endowment. The Endowment was established in 1995 with a promise of at least $1,000 a year from the treasury and more from member contributions. Due to the generosity of members, current contributions total over $300,000. From the interest generated, the Foundation awards scholarships to CT State students.
