George Gershwin: His Life and Music

On his keyboard, Dr. Joe plays the music on the piano of this great American icon and explores George Gershwin’s career as a musician and composer, including his collaboration with his lyricist brother, Ira.  We follow  the development of his many creative hits, such as Rhapsody in Blue, An American in Paris and his opus magnum, Porgy and Bess.

Facilitator: Joe Utterback

Joe Utterback earned his MA in Piano Performance from Wichita State University and his DMA from the University of Kansas.  He has over 500 published jazz and classical compositions in his composer catalogue. Dr. Joe has been Director of Music/Organist at Stratford First Congregational Church since 1996.  He has been on the faculty of Sacred Heart University for 28 years, led classes for 17 years at LLI and continues to perform around the world.
