Drawing from Nature (via Zoom)

A drawing course where we work with graphite and focus on getting as accurate a rendering as possible. We work with flowers, leaves, fruit, pinecones, fungi and other objects from nature, and from the instructor’s photographs. We draw together, with students observing the instructor’s hands while he provides real-time commentary. Students share their work as they progress.
Materials required are pencils 2H to 2B, a sketch pad 9×12 or 11×14, a kneaded eraser and an eraser pencil.

Facilitator: Dr Dick Rauh

Dr Dick Rauh earned a PhD after retirement in Plant Sciences from CUNY and was awarded a Gold Medal from the Royal Horticultural Society in 2006. He taught the science behind botanical art, art classes at The New York Botanical Garden for over 25 years and gives workshops throughout the country. He exhibits widely, had a solo show at the Brooklyn Botanical Garden in 2014 and has artwork in the collection of the New York State Museum, the Shirley Sherwood Collection and the Lindley Library in London. His is currently exhibiting A Botanical Perspective at the Westport Library, through February 28.
