November 17 — Our Amazing Connecticut Stone Walls

Stones are the signature archaeological legacy of Connecticut and New England itself. Stone wall delineate and define northeastern America as surely as the Appian Wat says “Italy”, or the Great Wall says “China”. Connecticut is fortunate to have many linear miles of stone wall that have for centuries characterized our agrarian heritage. It is the story of people and of the art of created with millions of fieldstones stacked and laid; of single wall capped or coped; of rare walls and mysteries, some done well, some badly; that will be revealed and discussed during the presentation.

Sylvia Reiss lives in Connecticut and is a former teacher, retired antiques dealer and past president of the Antiques Council. She is also active in the Darien Historical Society.
